Today is: Monday, September 06, 2010
There are many efforts being made by many people. Executive Officer Kim Byrd, Guardian President Rochelle Bilal, to honor our befallen P/O Lauretha Vaird. She has not and we will not.... let her be forgotten.
On Tuesday, January 2, 1996, Officer Lauretha Vaird became the first female member of the Philadelphia Police Department killed in the line of duty when she was shot and killed while responding to a bank robbery. She had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 9 years.
The Philadelphia Guardian Civic League honors our beloved sister, and remembers her in the pictures and images displayed here (please click on images to view enlargements).
We also encourage you to read about initiatives being made by the Lauretha Vaird Foundation and their efforts to assist community youth.
